Old School Photographs

The most successful exercise conducted by the Local History group has been to gather old school photographs and to name those depicted. Various methods have been adopted to obtain the names: those appearing in the photos have been approached; copies of photos have been left in the Village Shop for the attention of customers; invitations have been displayed at exhibitions for people to provide names.

Overall the exercise has been very successful and the bulging albums of photos from the early 1900s up to the 1970s have been of great interest when put on display. It is amazing to see how people congregate around the albums and discuss their school days. The photos are of interest to those who appear in them and to their families.

Inevitably, there are faces that no one seems able to put names to, perhaps they weren't around long enough to make an impression. But the more the photos are displayed the more the names trickle in.

It has proved to be a real community exercise with many people providing the photographs and many people providing the names.
